There are few things in driving as exciting as putting your car on the track. Pictures of your car should convey that excitement and show the power and grace of your car.
Photographing a car that’s moving past you at 40, 50, 60, or 100/MPH isn’t easy to do. There are a large number of technical elements that go into making a picture great. Additionally specialized camera and lens equipment is required.
Many if not most of owner taken photographs either freeze the car making it look like it’s sitting in a parking lot or creating a picture that’s a total blur.
Look at the picture at the top of this page. You can almost feel the car moving on your screen.
Unlike automotive beauty portraits motorsport photographs require a track to create the most compelling images. So the answer to the question of when and where is whenever you can arrange for track time. Time of day isn’t as important as it is with beauty portraits.
While your car can take to the track by itself having other cars on the track with you can make your pictures even more exciting and visually compelling.
I am available to shoot on tracks from Sebring to Miami. Arrangements must be made in advance in order to get the tracks permission to photograph from advantageous positions along the course.
Motorsport shoots typically last much longer than beauty portraits. As you can imagine your car will only be in front of my lens for seconds each lap. It therefore requires many laps and shooting positions to get that group of special pictures.
During a track shoot it’s not unusual to shoot 800 to 1,000 pictures. It’s important to understand that my camera will take 20 pictures for every second the camera button is depressed. Assuming that your car is in front of my lens for 3 seconds that’s 60 pictures each lap. Due to the nature of the sport many of the photographs will be unusable. There a host of reasons why that’s the case.
At the end of the day that 800 to 1,000 shots will reduce down to somewhere between 100 and 200 exciting pictures.
I typically do NOT provide prints. However, I can make suggestions as to where you send your pictures for printing. I can print images up to 13″X19″ for a fee if you have interest in obtaining a print of that size or smaller.
